Graphic Design Coordinator

Music Nova Scotia is currently seeking a like-minded, enthusiastic, and results driven Graphic Design Coordinator to join our team.

Reporting to the Events & Marketing Manager, and working closely with the entire marketing team, the Graphic Design Coordinator will design and create print, digital, and multi-media products to support the communication, branding, and marketing needs of the organization. 

A willingness to be adaptable from a creative design perspective, is vital in this role. The Coordinator will be part of a small team that values initiative, ideas, creativity, and problem-solving as we work together to deliver the products, services, and events produced by Music Nova Scotia, including Nova Scotia Music Week. 

The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and will be able to pivot quickly. To be successful in this role, you must possess strong communication skills, organizational abilities, demonstrate passion and commitment on a daily basis, and be an excellent team member. 

Graphic Design Coordinator: 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Creation of graphics for digital and print purposes.
  • Assist with creating and updating marketing materials, and campaign planning.
  • Execute approved digital and print marketing campaigns that support MNS/NSMW strategic initiatives.
  • Help to develop and maintain social media content calendar, including proofreading blogs, writing status updates, tweets, posts, etc.
  • Gather, report, and analyze digital media metrics and results using various tools, and provide insights from the industry and overall marketing campaign.
  • Work on special projects and other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in creative design for digital and print media
  • 2+ years of Social Media platforms (including paid advertising)
  • 2+ years' experience with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and E-Commerce
  • Post-secondary education in Design, Marketing or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong communication, copywriting, and editing skills.
  • Highly organized, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, an eye for good design, and a solid understanding of branding and visual identity best practices.
  • A team player with a positive attitude, a desire to continue learning, and the ability to take and give feedback.

Eligibility Criteria

The Youth Employment Strategy (YES) is the Government of Canada’s interdepartmental initiative that seeks to help young people aged 15 to 30 years gain the skills, abilities and work experience they need to find and maintain quality employment. Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is delivered by Employment and Social Development Canada and falls under one of the Youth Employment Strategy program streams (Summer Work Experience).

CSJ 2019 includes new expanded eligibility to include all youth aged 15 to 30, which means youth who are not students are eligible. This change has been made to complement the Government's renewal of the Youth Employment Strategy (YES), announced in Budget 2018. A modernized YES will be implemented over five years to ensure that youth, including those who face unique barriers, achieve their potential in an evolving labour market.

To be eligible, participants must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

(Halifax, June 3 2019)  Twelve nominees, including five incumbents, are vying for nine spots on the Music Nova Scotia Board of Directors – and we need you to vote!
 
All Music Nova Scotia members are encouraged to vote for the Board of Directors, who will act as guidance for all Music Nova Scotia activities. 
 
The election will be conducted electronically from June 3rd until June 24th, 2019 at 5:00PM. 

Voting will take place through your Music Nova Scotia membership profile. Your membership must be up to date in order to login. If you have never accessed your profile, please register the email address associated with your membership with the website.  http://musicnovascotia.ca/user/register.  If your membership has expired, you may renew it by contacting the office at 902-423-6271 x 114.

Please follow the steps below to vote:

1.  Login to your profile on the Music Nova Scotia website - http://musicnovascotia.ca/.  If you do not remember your password, please select the "Request New Password" link under the login box. Please note that we do not have access to your password.

2.  Scroll down to "My Projects" on the left hand side of the screen

3.  Select the "VOTE" button located in the My Projects box. This will take you to the voting screen.  

4.  Once you have selected your votes, click submit and you're done!

Tunes at Noon Summer Concert Series Call for Submissions

Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC), in partnership with Music Nova Scotia, will once again present Tunes at Noon, a summer concert series featuring Nova Scotian performers of all genres of music on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from July 3 to August 22, 2019.

 “Tunes at Noon is entering its 12th year,” said Paul MacKinnon, DHBC Executive Director. “Downtown workers, visitors, and tourists in the area look forward to the concert series every summer. The performers bring Grand Parade alive and the music creates a welcoming, summertime atmosphere for Downtown Halifax.”

 The call for submissions seeks musicians available to perform a full hour-long concert in July and August. The Tunes at Noon concerts will be held on July 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31, and August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, and 22, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm in Grand Parade in Downtown Halifax. Potential rain dates are August 28, 29, and 30. This call is open to all genres of music. Performances will be solo acts, duos, and trios and acoustic in nature with no backline provided.

Tunes at Noon will provide the following:

  • PA + sound equipment (set-up and tear-down): Mixer (12 analog channels and 14 channels total), 2 main speakers, 2 monitors, 4 mics, 4 stands, 1 instrument mic, 4 DIs and cables
  • Sound engineer
  • Flat rate of $250 per act
  • Marketing and promotion
  • An opportunity to perform a midday concert in historic Grand Parade

  • Artist website (may consist of Reverbnation, Bandcamp, Sonicbids, official artist website, etc.). Any website is acceptable, but it must house music that can be easily found and played for the jury.
